Sporcle Live is good. Your own night can be too.
Sporcle Live sends a host to a venue on their schedule. Quizado is the software for venues that want the same room energy on a night they pick, with questions they choose, run by someone already on the payroll.
Sporcle Live brings you a trained host and a national league; Quizado hands the same live buzzers, big-screen scoreboard and team play to your own staff, so the night runs on your calendar, in your name, on the TV you already own.
Quizado vs. Sporcle Live
Why Switch from Sporcle Live?
They do not run a game in your town
Sporcle Live lists events through a Find a Game locator (sporcle.com, checked August 2026). Plenty of bars look themselves up, find the nearest game two counties away, and stop there.
Quizado does not have a map. If your bar has internet and a screen, you can run a full night this Tuesday from a laptop behind the taps.
The night sits on their calendar
A touring host covers several venues, so your slot depends on which evening is free in the region. Moving it for a holiday week means asking.
You own the calendar. Run Wednesday this month, add a Sunday afternoon round for a cup final, and skip the week the kitchen is closed.
A weekly fee you cannot flex
A hosted night costs the same in February as it does in the summer, whether thirty teams turn up or four.
Quizado is one monthly software plan, and you can start free with the built-in packs for up to sixteen players while you test whether the room fills.
Nothing about the room is in the questions
National question sets are well written and fact checked, but they will not know your brewery, your street or the team the regulars argue about.
From Trivia Pro, type a topic into AI question generation and get a bar trivia round back, then edit every line before it hits the screen.
The crowd belongs to the brand
Regulars follow a good host and a good league. If the schedule moves the game to the bar down the road, the teams often follow it.
Run it in house and the mailing list, the team names and the season table stay with your venue. From Trivia Pro, so does the logo on the screen.
One format, week after week
Straight trivia every single week is a hard sell once a room has played a year of it.
Swap in a Name That Tune round, or move up to Hospitality Group for Music Bingo, a Family Feud face-off and a Jeopardy board, without buying another product.
What Makes Quizado Different
Built from the ground up for modern bar trivia and live events.
QR code on the screen, teams in the game
The display shows a join code. Guests scan it with the camera app and type a team name. No download, no sign-up, no answer slips to collect and mark.
Buzzers on the phones already in the room
In a Buzzer Race round the host console locks the first buzz it receives, and the screen shows which team it locked. Nothing to hand out and nothing to collect.
Five round types in bar trivia
Buzzer Race, Everyone Answers, Everyone Scores, Knockout and Wager, with Music Bingo as a sixth on Hospitality Group. Mixing three of them keeps a two-hour night moving.
A season table, not just one night
Leagues and seasons keep a running table across weeks, so teams come back to defend a place instead of dropping in when they remember. Leagues start on Trivia Pro.
Music rounds without a separate app
Name That Tune sits in the host console, and Music Bingo joins it on Hospitality Group. You are responsible for your own music licence, as with any night that plays tracks.
Runs on whatever you have
Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, iPadOS, Android and the browser. Host from an old laptop, cast the display to the TV, done.
What Sporcle Live actually gives a venue
Start with the fair version. Sporcle Live is a hosted pub trivia company. A host turns up at the venue, works the microphone for the evening, runs the rounds and settles the scores. There is a Find a Game locator for players, private event bookings, theme nights and virtual trivia, plus a Globe League for teams playing competitively (sporcle.com, checked August 2026).
That is a real product and it solves a real problem: nobody on your staff has to learn to host. The questions are written for you, the crowd knows the brand, and if a member of your team calls in sick on a Tuesday the quiz still happens. For a venue with no confident host and no spare hour in the week, paying someone else to run trivia is a sensible trade.
Sporcle Live does not publish venue pricing on its site, so if you are budgeting, ask them for a quote rather than trusting a number in a forum thread. The same goes for coverage: check the locator for your address before you plan a night around them. Both answers can be a straight yes, and if they are, this page is not trying to talk you out of it.
Why a venue ends up running it in house
Bars usually reach for software for one of three reasons, and none of them is that the hosted company did a bad job. The first is geography. Hosted trivia works where there are enough venues in one drive to fill a host schedule. If you are the only pub for thirty miles, the map does not reach you and no amount of goodwill changes that.
The second is control of the calendar. A touring host is shared across venues, so your night is the one the region can spare. Owners who want trivia on a slow Wednesday, a second short round before a big match, or a Sunday afternoon quiz for families end up wanting the console themselves. Quizado will run a full night at 3pm on a Sunday because nothing has to be scheduled with anyone.
The third is the margin. A weekly hosted fee is fixed, and trivia revenue is not. Software costs the same in a quiet February as it does in July, which is why the arithmetic tends to favour running it yourself once the night is established and someone behind the bar has grown into holding the microphone.
Sporcle the quiz site is not the bar night
A lot of people searching for Sporcle for bars are thinking of sporcle.com itself, the online quiz site with user-made quizzes and formats like map, picture click and multiple choice. It is a great way to lose an afternoon at a desk.
It is not built to be a bar night, and it does not pretend to be. Web quizzes are one person typing answers into a box. A pub night needs teams, a screen everyone can read from across the room, a timer the host controls, a way to buzz in, and a leaderboard that lands after every round. Projecting a browser quiz onto the TV and reading it out loud is where a lot of first attempts start, and it is also where most of them stop.
Quizado is the other half of that idea: the host drives a console, the room sees a display window on the TV, and every player has a phone with buttons on it. Questions come from the built-in packs, and from Trivia Pro from your own writing or from AI generation when you want a bar trivia round about a topic no general question set will cover.
Who should stay, who should switch
Keep booking Sporcle Live if...
Plenty of venues should. A hosted night is the right answer more often than software people admit.
- +Nobody on your team wants to hold a microphone
- +They already run a game near you and the crowd knows the brand
- +Being part of a national league is a draw for your regular teams
- +You would rather pay a fixed fee than add a job to the rota
Run it yourself with Quizado if...
These are the four reasons venues give when they take the night in house.
- +No hosted company covers your town
- +You want to pick the night, the time and the length
- +You want local questions, your branding and your own season table
- +Someone on staff enjoys the microphone and would do it for the shift
How to switch in 3 steps
Practise on a quiet night
Open a free account, load a built-in question pack and run three rounds for whoever is in on a Monday. Fifteen minutes with the display window is enough to learn the console.
Add a second night before you move the first
If a hosted game already runs in your room, leave it alone and put your own quiz on a different evening. Nothing to cancel, and you find out fast whether the crowd shows up twice.
Start a season and keep the teams
On Trivia Pro, turn on leagues, name the season after the venue and post the table behind the bar. A running table is what turns a good night into a Tuesday habit.
If you host trivia for a living
Sporcle Live recruits hosts, and if you are one of them, this page is not asking you to quit. Working for a hosted company is a good deal: the questions arrive written, the venues are booked, and you get paid to be the loudest person in the room on a Tuesday.
The work that a company schedule does not cover is where quizmasters buy their own software. Private bookings, weddings, birthdays, a corporate away day, a charity night for a venue that is not on the route: those are yours, and they need a console you control. Quizado gives you the display window, the phone buzzers, the scoring and the question library, and it runs from the same laptop you carry to gigs anyway.
Start free with the built-in packs to learn the console, then move up when a paid booking makes it worth it. Trivia Pro is where you start writing your own question sets, and it adds media rounds, monthly AI credits, leagues and a custom logo on the screen. Custom fonts and colours are Hospitality Group. See the pricing page for what each plan includes.
What a hosted company does that we do not
Sporcle Live supplies a trained human being. Quizado supplies software. We do not send anyone to your venue, we do not write a fresh national question set every week for you, and we cannot put your bar into their national league. If what you want is to hand trivia to someone else and get on with running the bar, book a hosted night. Quizado is for the venue that wants the controls.
